If you are planning to purchase a dog and your family is asking for a Labradoodle, you need to learn about the breed first. This will allow you to determine if a Labradoodle will fit in well with your family. Keep reading to learn more about this so you can start looking for your new dog, which you can purchase or find at a dog rescue or Labradoodle breeder.

Exercise Needs

Labradoodles are beautiful dogs, but they have a lot of energy and require exercise every day. If they do not get the exercise, they need they will have behavior problems, such as being too hyper inside your home. Exercise can include going for a couple of walks each day, playing with your dog outside, or letting your dog run in a fenced-in backyard.

There are dog parks in most areas where you can walk your dog in a safe place. You do have to keep your dog on a leash in these parks in most cases, however. Some parks will have areas where your dog can be off-leash. Make sure you pick up after your dog while you are there.

Purchase busy toys for your dog to have in the home. There are toys that have treats inside of them. Your dog has to figure out how to get the treat out, and this may take them some time.

Coat Care

A labradoodle has a curly wool coat that you need to comb weekly or more if your dog is outside a lot. If you do not do this, their hair will become matted, and the matts can be difficult to remove. One great thing about Labradoodles is they do not shed a lot. This makes this a great dog for people that have allergies.

Take your dog to a groomer if you notice its coat needs to be trimmed. This will likely be every few months. Ask the groomer to also bathe your dog and trim their nails for you. You need to bathe your dog every couple of weeks or more if they become very dirty. Use a brush made for dogs that have wool coats to make it comfortable when you brush them.  The groomer you choose can also give you tips on caring for their coat.

Take your puppy to a veterinarian once it has been home for a few days. The vet will give it a full checkup and can give you many tips.
